A Root as a Sculpture Under Glass

This is not an assembled piece of furniture, but a single, naturally grown form: the root ball of an olive tree, salvaged in its entirety, slowly dried, and cleaned by hand. The hollows and channels carved out by decades of growth have deliberately been left open rather than filled with epoxy resin. The round glass table top provides a flat, practical surface without detracting from the piece, letting you look right into the sculpture much like looking down into a ravine from an aeroplane.

Bleached Olive Wood with Striking Colour Variation

Look closely and you will see just how wide the tonal range of this single piece of wood is. Years of exposure have bleached the ridges and crests to a near-silvery, pale honey yellow, while the deep hollows have remained almost black. Between them runs the distinctive, twisting olive wood grain, punctuated here and there by small voids and fissures formed naturally by the wood itself.

Sustainability with a Story

True luxury is created with respect for nature. For iQonya’s exclusive furniture, healthy trees are never felled. We work solely with ecologically sourced timber from trees that have reached the end of their life cycle through natural causes—such as lightning, storms, or simply old age. A root ball like this is usually left behind in the soil after clearing; here, it takes pride of place as the centrepiece of a living room.
