The Barn Door 2.0: A Functional Work of Art Sliding doors (also known as barn doors) are immensely popular for separating spaces in a stylish and space-saving way. At iQonya, we go a step further than standard scaffold board doors. We create a 'River Door': a solid door crafted from two beautiful live edge slabs. The natural, organic edges (the live edge) face each other, and the space between them is filled with high-quality epoxy. The result is a breathtaking contrast between pure nature and sleek modern design.

The Example: Cedar with Black Epoxy The sliding door in these product photos is crafted from solid cedar. Cedar is a fantastic choice for doors: it is relatively lightweight (which benefits the sliding rails), has a warm, light flame pattern, and diffuses a subtle, wonderful scent. For this specific project, the client chose an opaque, deep black epoxy. This gives the door an elegant look and guarantees 100% privacy between the two spaces.

100% Bespoke: You are the Designer The most important thing to know is that this piece of furniture serves as an impression of our craftsmanship. Because we make everything by hand in our workshop in Zevenhuizen, the final design is entirely in your hands:

• More or less characterful? Do you love a robust, wild look? We can select slabs with huge holes, deep cracks and wild shapes, making the epoxy river flow even more dynamically through the wood.

• Colour of the Epoxy: Although black is beautiful and opaque, you can also choose a transparent tint (for example, light blue, bronze or smoked glass). Please note: with transparent epoxy, light shines through the door and there is a view into the other room.

• Other Wood Species: Besides cedar, we also make these doors from olive wood, juniper or European oak. Each with its own unique colour and grain.

Installation and Hardware A solid live edge door needs a robust hanging system. As seen in the images, we recommend a black steel sliding door system that fits perfectly with an industrial or modern interior style. We can supply the door with the hardware, and if desired, we can advise you on the suspension and floor guides to ensure the door rolls smoothly and safely.
