Planning a custom wooden vanity top

A custom wooden vanity top starts with your bathroom layout. Room width, basin depth and tap placement determine how comfortable it is to use. We discuss those dimensions and cutouts before cutting the solid timber to size.

Olive, juniper or cedar bathroom countertops

Olive wood has expressive, often flowing grain. Juniper combines pale and reddish-brown tones, while cedar has its own grain and natural shapes. Compare actual timber pieces to choose between a straight front edge and a live edge vanity top.

Single-basin and double-basin vanity tops

For a double vanity top, we consider the total width, the gap between the basins and usable space beside the taps. Send the outside dimensions, wall shape, basin type and preferred tap positions. A template can help with an uneven wall; we agree cutouts and fixing details before work starts.

Timber with resin or an oil finish

Resin can fill natural openings or join timber sections. We match the wood finish to bathroom use. Water-resistant does not mean maintenance-free: wipe away standing water, avoid leaving wet items on the surface and follow the care instructions for your particular finish.

How much does a bespoke wooden vanity top cost?

Dimensions, timber, resin quantity, cutouts and any basin determine the quotation. Shop prices apply to the specified product; a different size or additional work needs its own price. Include a sketch and measurements so we can advise on the actual layout.

Measuring a wooden vanity top: what do we need?

Start with a top-view sketch and photographs of the room. Provisional measurements are enough for an initial discussion. Agree final dimensions, cutouts and support before the top is made.

  1. Top and walls: note the preferred length, depth and thickness. Measure an alcove in several places; mark corners, pipes and uneven walls. A template may be needed.
  2. Basin: send the brand, model, outside dimensions and type (countertop or inset). Include the supplier’s technical drawing or cutting template; the outside size alone does not define the cutout.
  3. Layout: mark each basin centre and its distance from the side and back edges. For two basins, include the distance between them and the space you want for toiletries.
  4. Tap and drain: say whether the tap is wall-mounted, basin-mounted or fitted through the top. Include the technical hole and connection dimensions and allow space for the trap.
  5. Support: share photographs and measurements of the existing cabinet or wall, with the intended fixing. Agree who will assess and provide load-bearing support, brackets and installation.
  6. Delivery: provide the destination, floor, stairs or lift and difficult access points. Discuss timing and whether installation is part of the order.

What does your quote cover?

List the top, finish, cutouts, brackets, installation, any shelves and sanitary fittings separately. Basins, taps and cabinets in example photographs are not automatically included. Agree dimensions and parts afresh for your own version.

Delivery is not included as standard. Depending on the dimensions and destination, we quote delivery separately or include it in the agreed price. Tell us your delivery location so we can specify this in your quote.

Information & Support

Frequently asked questions

How much does a wooden vanity top made to measure cost?

Dimensions, timber, resin quantity, cutouts and any basin determine the quotation. Shop prices apply to the specified product; a different size or additional work needs its own price. Include a sketch and measurements so we can advise on the actual layout.

How can I be sure the top fits exactly between my walls?

A cardboard template helps define a top between walls that are not square. Make it to the required shape and discuss clearances, wall finishes and installation with us before we cut the timber.

Is a wooden vanity top water resistant?

A suitable finish protects against splashes and humidity. Do not leave standing water; wipe the top dry after use. Care and re-treatment depend on the oil or resin finish, and we provide advice for your particular top.

Can the basin be mounted on top or under-mounted?

Both. For a counter-top basin we only drill the waste outlet; for an inset or under-mounted basin we rout the cut-out to the exact shape of your basin. Give us the make and model when you request a quote, or supply the technical drawing.

Which wood is best for a bathroom?

Cedar naturally resists moisture and carries a distinctive scent, which makes it a popular bathroom choice. Olive and oak are also widely used and, correctly finished, perform excellently. In the showroom we can lay the options side by side.
